Summer has arrived! As pet owners commence their vacation planning, the question of what to do with the family dog or cat while away inevitably arises. In a perfect world, we would bring our beloved companions everywhere we go, but traveling with pets can present significant challenges that aren’t always a part of the plan.
Pet boarding is often the safest option, especially if you opt to board your pet at a kennel that is attached to an AAHA veterinary hospital, like Clairmont Animal Hospital!
Creating a Rewarding Pet Boarding Experience
Visit us for a wellness exam about a month in advance. We will make sure your pet’s required vaccinations are up-to-date, including distemper, rabies, kennel cough (dogs only), and perform a fecal test if necessary. We will also make sure your pet starts on a monthly parasite preventive medication if he or she is currently unprotected.
The Comforts of Home
No one wants to leave a pet behind, but you can rest assured that your dog or cat is in good hands with us. Our staff members know how to make pets feel at home with daily walks and plenty of love and attention throughout the day, and our spacious, clean kennels help pets to feel comfortable and secure.
One of the key benefits of boarding your pet with us is the onsite availability of veterinarians and veterinary technicians. Not only do we have the ability to monitor your pet’s health and treat him or her for any issues right away, we are also qualified in administering any medications your pet is currently taking.
Starting Off on the Right Paw
We understand that leaving your pet is a stressful experience for you both, but it’s important that you keep your goodbyes short and sweet on drop-off day. Your pet is very aware of your emotions, and sensing your stress can make him or her feel stressed as well. Do your best to make the drop-off as positive and lighthearted as possible. If you’re excited, your pet will be too.
What About Kitty?
Clairmont Animal Hospital is proud to offer high quality boarding for cats as well as dogs. As a certified Cat Friendly Practice, we take the unique needs of our feline patients and boarding guests seriously. Kitties are cared for by our highly trained staff and enjoy a separate feline facility, designed specifically to reduce stress and provide environmental enrichment.
Home Again, Home Again
Being reunited with your best pal after your trip is arguably the best part of the pet boarding experience. Be sure to have fresh water on hand, as your pet may be extra thirsty from the excitement of seeing you again. Realize that it may take a couple of days for your pet to settle in to his or her old routine (don’t hesitate to call us with any questions or concerns).
Your pet’s safety and comfort is our top priority at Clairmont Animal Hospital. We are honored to provide top-notch care for your pet, and look forward to making a new friend along the way!
